- In a previous article, rwaldrip@vdospk.com (Ronny Waldrip) says:
-
- RW> Just received my 1st laptop, Winbookxp5. My modem is New
- RW> Media V.34 fax modem 28.8. When I try to use it my Procomm
- RW> Plus 2.11 program says no dial tone. What is the problem?
- RW> What is the proper modem choice selection for this notebook?
- RW> The modem is not listed by Procomm.
-
- Before any modem communication program can work your PCMCIA card
- modem, the modem must be properly installed with/through the PCMCIA
- socket/card services and then configured with an associated PCMCIA
- client driver that configures the I/O (com port ) and IRQ
- (interrupt) settings.
-
- If you purchased the WinBook XP5 *with* the New Media NetSurfer
- V.34 (28.8bps) PCMCIA card modem as a fully installed option, the
- above configuration, etc. should already be done. If you purchased
- the modem as a separate item, you have to do the PCMCIA modem
- installation/configuration.
-
- The WinBook XP5 comes with the Windows 95 OS. To properly
- configure your PCMCIA modem for Win 95 communications, try the
- following. [As far as I know, the disk file set you'll need for
- Win 95 does *not* yet ship with the New Media NetSurfer PCMCIA card
- modem supplied by Winbook; the included disk and instruction book
- I've seen relate only to pre-Win 95 OS.]
-
- Download GNRLMDM.ZIP (206,544 bytes) from New Media Corporation
- in Irvine, California; unzip the file into components that make
- up an installation diskette.

-
- In Windows 95, go to CONTROL, MODEMS, NEW, PCMCIA, [insert
- PCMCIA modem card], click ALTERNATE DRIVERS, set to read your
- driver diskette in A:\ or B:\ drive, and select and install
- "V.34 NetSurfer" for modem type. Follow the instructions.
-
- Hope this helps!
-
- BTW, the New Media NetSurfer PCMCIA fax/data modem card is a good
- one and should respond well to the following in modem communication
- application program configuration lists: "Generic 28.8," Angia
- 28.8," and "Hayes High Speed."
